Spice it up with Berkeley’s Spice of Life Festival

2008_spiceBerkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto is transformed into an all out street fair this Sunday, October 4th from 10 AM – 6 PM for the Spice of Life festival. There will be cooking demos and samples, wine tastings, carnival rides, farm animals, crafts and music! And naturally, a farmers’ market where you’ll find the extraordinary Todd C. in one of his signature hats. Pick up Happy Girl’s newest delectables: raspberries or apricots in light honey syrup (perfect for waffles, pancakes and yogurt), spicy bread and butters or pick up previously out of stock favorites like dry farmed tomato country ketchup. The fall is here and we’ve preserved the summer.

Food and Wine Harvest Festival in Carmel

Picture 1Join Happy Girl Kitchen this weekend at Food and Wine Magazine’s Harvest Farm to Table festival. Set among the rolling fairways and sparkling lakes of the soon to close Quail Lodge, the festival is weekend packed with chef demos, wine tastings, barbecue and gardening seminars and even a kid’s kitchen! Get snockered with a Very Happy Girl bloody mary, made with our world famous spicy heirloom tomato juice and stroll the grounds while you still can.

‘Tis the season for food festivals

picture-1Come on down to Oakland’s Jack London Square to check out Todd C.’s food alchemy in a fast past paced pickle demo at Eat Real Fest’s Community Canning & Foraging Exchange, Friday, August 28th, 6-8 PM. There will also be fermentation, jam, and foraging tips from area experts. Bring the efforts from your own canning adventures to trade with others and enter in the Yes I Canned contest to win awesome prizes.

Then, stroll the marketplace all weekend long and visit HGK’s old fashioned lemonade and pickle stand, featuring our addictive lavender hibiscus lemonade, as well as sour, vinegar, and sweet pickles. It’s summer. Go out with a crunch (from a pickle, of course!)
