heirloom tomatoes workshop – a hands-on experience
Fresh heirloom tomatoes are the treasure jewels of a summer garden. They are delicious right off the vine and sustain the gardener with their juicy sun energy. Tomatoes have become a staple in our diets and it is hard to leave them out of our meals once they are no longer in season. The best way to continue eating local tomatoes all year long is to safely tuck them into jars. This workshop will begin with an in depth discussion on various food preservation techniques packed with information that will give you complete confidence in all of your tomato projects. We then head into the kitchen to get to work on three different recipes.
Crushed Heirloom Tomatoes: This is a great way to quickly preserve tomatoes to be used all winter long in a variety of different ways. This is the most used tomato preserve in my home.
Dry-Farmed Tomatoes: Intense tomatoes preserved with garlic and basil in an invigorating yet mild vinegar solution. Makes a great addition to soups and stews all winter long or straight as a bruschetta.
Spicy Salsa and Spicy Tomato Juice: Adds great heat to those cold winter nights! Here we divulge the secret recipe to our World Famous Salsa. Not to be missed!
