May 9- Introduction to canning, 5:30-8:30pm


By popular demand we have added this new workshop to our line up.  There is a lot of important knowledge to gain when you start canning!  This workshop will give you the basics of what you need to know about canning for all pickles, jams and tomato canning.  We will cover topics of safety and quality.  You will learn how to experiment with recipes and how to design your own.  

In this workshop we will make one batch of jam and a jar of pickles and a jar of sauerkraut.   you will learn how to make a low sugar jam and how you can adjust the sugar, lemon juice and different fruit in the jam.  You will learn how to add spices or flavorings and make a fantastic jam every time!  We never add extra pectin in our jams, but simply rely on the fruit for the pectin content.

For the pickles you will learn the difference between a fermented pickle and a vinegar brined pickle.  You will learn the safety in canning pickles and how to experiment with the different vinegars and spices.  You will also learn about adjusting the amount of salt and sugar in  your pickles and or completely eliminating them!  

This can be the perfect workshop to kickstart a fun summer of preserving the local harvest!  It may be just what you need to get going on a new project you have been wanting to learn!

You will go home with 3 jars of goodies and a lot of knowledge.  We will share organic snacks and a dinner throughout the workshop too! 

This is going to be a really fun workshop, so register early as they tend to fill up fast!  The workshop will be held at Happy Girl Kitchen Flagship location from 5-8pm at 173 Central ave, Pacific Grove 93950.
