May 14 - Jams and Fruit Preserves, 5:30-8:30pm
We are so lucky here in California where we have access to the most AMAZING fruit! Have you ever wanted to learn how to make fabulous low sugar jams with local fruit? We are happy to show you how to do it!
In this workshop we will cover all you need to know to make delicious jams and the keys to preserve food safely. You will learn our secret techniques for making low sugar jam that is packed with fresh fruit and flavor. We will cover techniques for making and testing your jam so that it comes out perfect every time! We will begin with a one hour introductory talk covering the topics of hot water bath canning, the PH scale, and food safety. You will get hands on with some of the Bay Area's very best produce and learn all of the techniques to making great preserves at home!
We will be right on the brink of the summer fruits flowing into season and so this is a perfect time to learn how to make jam (just as the fruit trees are all in bloom!). We will work with local organic berries that are in season and we will have the tools to create some fabulous jams. I will show you how to add spices, herbs and citrus to your jams to create your own unique recipes. You will also learn how to preserve fruit in honey in a compote.
You will go home with 3 jars of goodies and a lot of knowledge. We will share an organic meal throughout the workshop too!
