July 24-27 Teen Cooking Series workshop 4-7pm, $350
Designed by Happy Girl chef, Suzanne and Luis, the longtime Happy Girl kitchen manager, this series is specifically for teenaged (13-18 years old) chefs and aspiring chefs. With an emphasis on developing a variety of kitchen skills while preparing a nightly meal, teen chefs will graduate from this series with increased interest, independence and ability in the kitchen. Focus will be on techniques to prepare healthy and fresh vegetarian cooking and the recipes will be provided.
Monday – Our first night will start out with lots of chopping and knife skills. We will be using these skills through out the week. The result of the chopping will be a meal of Fresh spring rolls and a peanut dipping sauce. Each night, we will make a salad of fresh vegetables to complement the main project, and this evening it will be an Asian style fresh cucumber salad with a rice vinegar dressing.
Tuesday – Tacos are a favorite, and it’s awesome to know how to make them from scratch! In this second evening, we will learn about making the perfect pot of beans and Spanish rice, pico de gallo salsa, cabbage slaw, handmade corn tortillas and the refreshing horchata drink.
Wednesday – Stir frys are a way to make a delicious and wholesome meal using seasonal vegetables. This evening, we will be talking about the importance of local and seasonal produce while making a tofu stir fry using vegetables delivered to the café from our local farm partners. We will talk about different pairings of vegetables and how to make a sauce that complements the vegetables.
Thursday - Finale pizza party! We will learn to make homemade pizza crust, tomato sauce and basil pesto. We will each make an individual pizza and top it with the freshest available ingredients. To complement the pizza, we will be teaching a basic vinaigrette and build a mixed green salad to complete the meal. To complete the party, we will be providing Italian-style sodas using house made Happy Girl products.
This series of evening classes is only available as an entire workshop. We are looking forward to working with the teen chefs as they build their skills and confidence in the kitchen through out the four day workshop and while they enjoy each other’s company. Each night, we will sit down and enjoy the meal that we have prepared together.
Please book early; this is a unique opportunity for teens to work in a commercial kitchen and learn a variety of skills! We anticipate that this long awaited workshop will fill quickly. The workshop will be held at Happy Girl Kitchen location from 5-8 pm at 173 Central Avenue, Pacific Grove 93950.
